Workforce Development: Disparities, Data, and Diversity
Join ICR on November 9 where we will strive to present an up-to-date picture of the state of the construction workforce in central Indiana. The session will begin with a short presentation of state and national construction labor statistics showing the impacts of the pandemic, and the pressures of many large construction projects. Following that, we will turn to our panel of local industry leaders and educators and have them discuss the current and future state of construction labor in central Indiana from their perspectives.

Panelists Include:
David Peterson, ERMCO
David is responsible for all operations of the organization from pursuit and procurement through construction and ongoing support. He has been part of ERMCO’s executive leadership team since 2009, helping grow the company from a staff of 65 to over 135 and field staff of over 1200 nationally, increasing revenue from $100 million to over $250 million, establishing a national presence, and expanding the company’s services from primarily installation to include design, preconstruction, systems and controls integration, and maintenance.
Tressie Fife, Employ Indy
Tressie Fife serves as a Talent Bound Program Manager at EmployIndy, Marion County’s workforce development board. In this role, she is a key player in shaping the local workforce landscape, focusing on K-12 career-connected learning and helping employers develop a pipeline of diverse future talent. Ranging from program leadership to data operations, Tressie’s work is instrumental in aligning the initiatives of EmployIndy with the ever-changing demands of the labor market. With a career spanning nine years, Tressie brings a wealth of experience and a multidimensional approach to her role at EmployIndy.
Marquisha Williams, Milestone Contractors
Marquisha Williams joined the asphalt industry in 2004 working for various companies as a laborer. She started her career with Milestone Contractors in 2013 working in the field as a laborer and QC tech in the field/lab. Marquisha became a safety rep for Milestone in 2017 for the Richmond/Portland are and was responsible for conducting employee orientation, training, jobsite safety audits, hazard recognition and abatement, safety planning, and support. Marquisha is very excited to say she was recently promoted to EEO Officer/HR Area Partner. In her current role as HR Area Partner, she supports the benefitted employees in her area and in the role as the EEO Officer she is dedicated to advancing equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace. With a passion for promoting fairness and equality. She also sits on the board for the Women of Asphalt!
Sarah Walker, Hagerman
Sarah Walker is a Senior Training and Development Leader with extensive experience working with various organizational levels creating, promoting, and delivering training solutions designed to support the organization’s business plan. She has successfully implemented cutting-edge training modules and curriculums across diverse markets, utilizing a variety of delivery methods to promote best practices and practical sales training and techniques. In her most recent role at The Hagerman Group, Sarah serves as Director of the Hagerman Institute of Learning, where she has successfully implemented several new training programs from the ground up. Sarah has been with Hagerman for just over six years, and in that time, she has elevated the Hagerman Institute to an award-winning learning platform for not only the company’s employees, but for the A/E/C industry as a whole and students of all ages through her student enrichment and little hard hats programs.
Chris Price, Indiana Construction Roundtable Foundation
Chris Price is the President of the Indiana Construction Roundtable and the Indiana Construction Roundtable Foundation. Chris started working in the construction industry in 1998, after earning his Civil Engineering Degree from Purdue University. Following his career in the construction industry, Chris made the jump to the world of non-profit and has never looked back. Chris takes a lot of pride in helping these organizations fulfill their missions. Through his work with both groups, Chris is currently involved with programs that encourage and empower youth and adults to pursue careers in construction. Chris also serves on the Board of Directors for Skills USA Indiana.
Moderator: Kevin Forbes, Indianapolis Airport Authority
Kevin is currently the Director of Landside Development for the Indianapolis Airport Authority where he is responsible for the development and management of all Landside (non-airfield) capital improvement projects. Prior to working at the Indianapolis Airport Authority he was the Senior Vice President of Harding Group where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of a large Indianapolis based paving company. Prior to this he was the Director of Engineering and Construction for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He is a graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 1985, BS Civil Engineering, Professional Engineer, State of Indiana.
