Join the Indiana Construction Roundtable (ICR) as it kicks off its 2025 educational programming with the annual “State of Construction” event focusing on the outlook for the construction industry in 2025

This event will allow attendees to hear about state and national trends and provide realistic solutions to overcome these complexities. Matt Gierke of FMI Corporation will share his insights on key industry trends and challenges as well as provide a forecast for the U.S. Construction Industry. Dr. Philip Powell, associate dean of academic programs at IU Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis, will provide a local perspective on the economy and share recommendations for how to best position your company for the year ahead.

The State of Construction will be held Wednesday, February 19 at Indiana Landmarks, 1201 Central Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46202. Registration and networking opens at 7:30 a.m. The program will run from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. and include time for Q & A. Don’t miss this informative session.

Matt Gierke, FMI Corporation

Matt is a consultant with FMI Corporation. Matt works with contractors, construction equipment and materials manufacturers, and distributors to drive future growth, profitability and improvement. Matt specializes in market strategy, change management, business development and project management.

Prior to joining FMI, Matt was an internal strategy consultant and project manager at a market-leading Fortune 100 manufacturer of heavy equipment. During this time, Matt was responsible for development and implementation of a diverse range of projects, from incentivizing and managing distributors to entering new markets and executing large capital improvements. Matt also spent seven years as a manager of complex capital projects within the steel industry.


Phil Powell, IU Kelley School of Business

Phil Powell is Executive Director of the Indiana Business Research Center and Associate Clinical Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in Bloomington and Indianapolis. The Indiana Business Research Center uses data, practical research, and strategic insight to help businesses, communities, and organizations make better decisions and forecast their future. Prediction of market trends and advisement on business strategy are a focus of Powell’s current research and outreach work. Previously, Powell was Associate Dean of Academic Programs. Before joining the dean’s office, Powell was faculty chair of online graduate programs which earned a number one U.S. News & World Report ranking during his tenure. Powell joined the Kelley School 28 years ago. He has received 21 teaching awards and is a published scholar on topics in economic development. Powell is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from Vanderbilt University and B.A. in economics from the University of South Carolina.
